Barclay Physical Therapy believes in providing exceptional service to our patients. We hold ourselves accountable by comparing our patient functional performance and satisfaction scores relative to national benchmark standards.
Barclay Physical Therapy chooses CMS recommended Patient Inquiry® by Focus on Therapeutic Outcomes, Inc. (FOTO®) as the assessment tool used to determine patient functional limitations.
What is FOTO®?
FOTO® is an outcomes management system that provides risk-adjusted, benchmarked reporting of patient functional status. It allows for fair comparison of rehabilitation services for clinicians, clinics and organizations across the country.
Data is risk-adjusted for age, gender, care type, severity and acuity. FOTO® uses risk-adjusted algorithms and analytical models to predict outcomes. FOTO® is the largest and most valid external database for rehabilitation, measuring patient satisfaction and functional outcomes for musculoskeletal, industrial, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and pediatric patients.
The National Quality Forum (NQF) has endorsed the Focus on Therapeutic Outcomes (FOTO®) Measurement System after a rigorous review process by expert committees of stakeholders across the healthcare continuum. Endorsed measures include: knee, hip, foot and ankle, lumbar, shoulder, elbow-wrist and hand, and general orthopedic. Newer measures are available for patients with stroke and lymphedema.
How do we use FOTO® and why do we use it?
At intake, patients are asked to complete a functional assessment. This same computer adapted test is administered mid-way through the treatment process and once more upon discharge. Patients also complete a standardized satisfaction survey at discharge. FOTO® then uses the responses to generate individual patient profiles capturing their change in functional status and comparing them to peers.
FOTO® offers us the ability to hold ourselves accountable and identify strengths and areas of improvement in our delivery of care. We feel the outcomes of these reports are also useful to our physician partners in providing additional insight into understanding the patient's effectiveness of care and is part of our commitment to enhance communications.
